Gantry Machining Centers

Gantry (bridge-type) machining centers for large molds, machine beds, frames, plates and structural parts. The range covers fixed-beam gantry machines for small and medium complex parts, large bridge mills for heavy cutting, high-precision die machining centers, 5-axis high-speed models, linear-motor gantry mills and moving-gantry designs, with X-axis travels from about 2,000 mm to over 10,000 mm.

How to choose a gantry machining center

A gantry machine is chosen when the part is too large or heavy for a vertical machining center. Size the X and Y travels and the width between columns to your largest part plus fixtures, and check the table load. Fixed-beam designs such as the LEADWELL SVW Series are stiff and suit precision work; moving-gantry designs such as the JOBS GRAND SPEEDER keep a very heavy workpiece still. For deep molds, check the Z travel and the head options: a right-angle or universal head lets you machine side walls without re-clamping. For aerospace parts and complex surfaces, choose a 5-axis model such as the FPV-3020 or the linear-motor JOBS LINX; for high-precision dies, see the SNK DC.

What to send for a quotation

Send the part drawing or 3D model, the material, the largest part size and weight, the tolerance, the CNC control you prefer and the head attachments you need. Tell us the floor space available, as large gantry machines need a planned foundation.

FAQ

Fixed beam or moving gantry?

In a fixed-beam machine the beam stays put and the table moves, which gives high rigidity and accuracy for small and medium parts. Moving-gantry machines suit very long and heavy parts, because the part does not have to move.

Does a gantry machine need a special foundation?

Large gantry machines usually need a reinforced concrete foundation built to the maker’s drawing. Ask for the foundation drawing at quotation stage so the civil work can be planned early.

Which CNC controls are available?

Siemens and HEIDENHAIN controls are used on the larger models listed; tell us your preference.
