MgO Board Production Line
Production lines for magnesium oxysulfate (MgSO₄-based) boards — chloride-free MgO boards formed with glass-fibre mesh and cured without an autoclave.

MgO Board Production Process
Batching and mixing → roller-pressed forming in layers with glass-fibre mesh → stacking → curing → demoulding → further curing → trimming, sanding and inspection → packing.
Why Magnesium Sulfate MgO Board
Our MgO board lines make magnesium oxysulfate boards. There are no chloride ions in the board, so it does not sweat or leach brine in humid weather and does not corrode steel studs, screws or other metal fixings. Its softening coefficient can reach 0.9: after long immersion in water it keeps about 90% of its strength.
Traditional magnesium oxychloride boards are tougher in bending at high density, which keeps them in use where heavy hanging loads matter. But they can absorb moisture, sweat brine and corrode light-gauge steel framing and fittings — the problems that switching the binder to magnesium sulfate solves.
Raw Materials for MgO Board
- Light-burned magnesium oxide (60–80% active MgO)
- Magnesium sulfate solution (15–25% concentration)
- Fillers such as wood chips, bamboo powder or calcium carbonate powder
- Glass-fibre mesh for reinforcement
Light-burned magnesium oxide and magnesium sulfate are bought in; calcining kilns and magnesium sulfate production are upstream industries and not part of the board line. The activity and purity of the magnesium oxide decide board strength and stability, so the first step is to test the raw materials you can source locally.
Curing: No Autoclave
Boards cure naturally at ambient temperature, in stages: an initial cure that sets the board and drives off water, a second cure, and a final deep cure. Magnesium sulfate boards harden slowly, so for cold climates or a shorter cycle an optional heated curing room is available.
MgO Board Sizes and Standards
- 2440 × 1220 mm; also 2400 × 1200 and 3000 × 1220 mm
- Thickness 3–20 mm, most commonly 3–12 mm
- Density 1.2–1.4 g/cm³
- PAS 670:2021 (UK) specifies magnesium oxide-based boards — made with magnesium oxychloride or magnesium oxysulfate — for partitions and internal and external linings, including moisture movement and performance in a humid environment.
- ICC 1125 (North America) is a performance standard for MgO boards, with testing for flexural strength, moisture movement, freeze-thaw durability, corrosion resistance and surface burning, and requirements for wall sheathing, tile backer, floor and roof sheathing.
Tell us the standard and the applications your boards are for: they decide the formulation, the density and the curing.
Capacity, Site and Project Timeline
- Output: 1–3 million m² a year per line
- Delivery: about 2–3 months
- Installation and commissioning: usually 3–4 engineers on site for 2–3 months
- Site for a 1 million m² a year line: 8,000–12,000 m² of buildings on about 1.3–2.7 ha (20–40 mu)
These are typical figures; your output, products and site decide the final configuration and schedule.
Every line is configured to your boards, target output and raw materials. Send us your requirements and we will propose a configuration. MgO boards can also be given a decorative finish on a UV coating line. For other plants, see our building material production lines.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why magnesium sulfate instead of magnesium chloride?
Sulfate boards contain no chloride, so they do not sweat brine or corrode steel studs and fixings. High-density chloride boards are tougher in bending, which is why they are still used for heavy hanging loads.
How does the board perform in water?
Its softening coefficient can reach 0.9 — after long immersion it keeps about 90% of its dry strength.
Does the line need an autoclave?
No. Boards cure naturally at ambient temperature. An optional heated curing room shortens the cycle or helps in cold climates.
Do you supply magnesium oxide or calcining kilns?
No. The line uses bought-in light-burned magnesium oxide and magnesium sulfate; calcining kilns are an upstream industry and not part of the board line.
What board sizes can be made?
2440 × 1220 mm (also 2400 × 1200 and 3000 × 1220 mm), 3–20 mm thick — most commonly 3–12 mm — at 1.2–1.4 g/cm³.
How long does a project take, and who do you send?
Delivery takes about 2–3 months. We usually send 3–4 engineers for 2–3 months of installation and commissioning.
What do you need to prepare a quotation?
Your board sizes and thicknesses, target output, the magnesium oxide and magnesium sulfate available to you, project location and planned timeline.
